Iowa ACAC Visit the Hill

Hosted by

Iowa ACAC Government Relations Committee & Iowa School Counselor Association

Visit the Hill is our FREE annual advocacy experience for those who assist students in the college admission process at both the postsecondary and secondary levels. Students, from both levels, are also welcomed to attend this event as an excellent learning opportunity in how government works.

During Visit the Hill, participants will be provided the necessary training and information to help lobby for issues critical to the interests of students transitioning from high school to college. Students will gain valuable information about State issues that directly influence their attendance in Iowa higher education institutions, and will have an opportunity to go to “The Hill” and meet directly with their legislators and discuss the impact these issues have on them. After lunch with other attendees and legislators, the group will head to the State Capitol to lobby with their state representative and senator.

Iowa ACAC wants to provide professional school counselors the opportunity to not only attend Visit the Hill, but also bring students, so we are offering a travel scholarship. The scholarship helps toward transportation expenses to and from the conference. The scholarship amount is up to $50 depending upon transportation costs. The deadline to apply for the travel scholarship is March 1, 2020.
