Get to Know...Julie Fopma!

Julie Fopma has had a role in Iowa ACAC for many years. Connect with her at conferences and learn from her extensive experience in higher education!

What is your job title?

Associate Registrar at Central College

Best part of your job?

I still get to work with students (incoming and current) and families on their transfer credits. The job combines all the things I’ve enjoyed doing in my past jobs at Iowa Wesleyan, Buena Vista, and Upper Iowa: working with transfer students and credits/ transcripts, research and reporting and academic advising.

How long have you been involved with Iowa ACAC and what has been your involvement?

I have been a part of Iowa ACAC since the fall of 2003 through various roles: Government Relations Chair on Executive Board (2011-2014), Assembly Delegate for the 2013 NACAC Conference, Human Relations Committee Member, Nominations and Awards Committee Member, New Counselor Mentor, Visit the Hill Participant 15 times, Iowa ACAC and MIDWest Conference Attendee and presenter, Finalist for the Iowa Admissions Professional of the Year award, NACAC Government Relations Committee (2014-2017), NACAC Government Relations Award Winner (2014) NACAC attendee.

What is your favorite memory from your time with Iowa ACAC?

There are so many to choose from! The best memories are from the many executive board meetings, Visit the Hill day, conference socials (Okoboji stands out) and meeting friends on the road at the college fairs. The people in Iowa ACAC are truly the best.

Advice for anyone newer to the world of higher ed?

Get involved in Iowa ACAC and other organizations. The networking opportunities are endless, the friends made will last a lifetime, and working in Admissions opens the door to other great careers in education.

What else should we know about you? Any fun facts, etc.?

I love reading and I walk daily to exercise--- so I do both at the same time and walk all over Pella with a book. It leads to some interesting comments and conversations…. And now I’ve added Max, a miniature aussiedoodle, to my home and he loves the long walks too!
