Curious about the future of affiliate leadership in college admissions? A few weeks ago,
NACAC's LEAD (Leadership, Engagement
and Development) at the University of Maryland-College convened affiliate presidents, president-elects, and past presidents nationwide to explore exactly that.
As the president-elect of
Iowa ACAC, I was able to attend sessions focused on strengthening affiliate leadership through advocacy, courageous leadership, strategic storytelling in philanthropy, college affordability, student mental health, international enrollment, and the evolving federal policy landscape as it relates to the work we do in higher education.
Key highlights for me included:
-Hearing directly from other secondary school counselors, college counselors and school board members about the challenges and opportunities they're seeing in college admission today.
-Left with new ideas, strategies, and connections to bring back to Iowa ACAC
-Reaffirmed the importance of giving back to our members to attend key professional development conferences and events through GAIN (Grant for Affiliate Impact by NACAC) grant funds
-Utilizing courageous leadership during my time in the president's cycle.
I am looking forward to reconnecting with this wonderful group of admissions professionals at NACAC in Minneapolis but most importantly serving the greater Iowa community of admissions professionals during my time in the presidents' cycle!
